Mission and Vision Statement

Background
As a Technology Teacher on Special Assignment, I work a lot with educators on integrating technology into their classrooms.  I am thrilled to be working at a school district that has recently decided to go 1:1.  I am excited by the challenge of taking an "innovation poor" (November, 2015) district and working to make it "technology rich" (November, 2015).

My Vision
I believe that all teachers should use technology in a “transformative” (Puentedura, 2012) way with their students daily.  Education should keep up with the technology standards of the workforce.  I also believe that optimal technology use in the classroom can increase student achievement.  My beliefs guide my vision of 21st Century teachers and students who use technology as a fulcrum to aid the learning process.  Technology in the classroom should be transparent, accessible, and supportive of academic goals (What is Successful Technology Integration?, 2007).

My Mission
I will work to provide stakeholders in my district with the goals, vision, and tools that will create a 21st Century learning environment.  As the responsibilities of teachers continues to evolve, I will help teachers obtain the “5 Essential Multimedia Skills Every Educator Must Master” as outlined by Dian Schaffhauser (2015).  These skills include: “Troubleshooting your own tech, embracing curiosity, capturing attention with video, juggling multiple display devices, and perfecting presentations” (Schaffhauser, 2015).  I also hope to make educators more confident and students more responsible with technology.
